Default Going Active duty...

Hello all! great website, lots of helpful info!
I am currently in the Reserves and have made the decision to go active duty, I turned in the conditional release form and am now waiting on all the correct signatures. My question is, will the Army let me switch MOS's in the middle of a contract? I am currently a 21m, Firefighter, not exactly an MOS with high demand on the active durty side as they have gone to a lot of civilian contractors these days. There are a few new MOSs that I would love, mainly in the medical field. Am I wishful thinking to hope that they would go through the hassle of retraining me???

You should be working with an active duty recruiter to see where you could go and what your options are. With an obscure MOS like that, you might be able to reclassify.

I agree with Armygirl, especially if you want to classify to 68W. There would be more of a need for Combat Medics then Firefighters I would imagine.

Although I doubt if this is the case but if you have a bonus for your MOS you might have to check to make sure you won't have to pay it off. Also some Reserve units offer bonuses so be careful there. Your Career Counselor or Recruiter should be able to find out & make any necessary corrections.
