Enlistment options change on almost a daily basis. When my son was in the enlistment process his Recruiter suggested 18X. He came back a few days later & said 18X was no longer an option. At that time the only way to get into SF was to apply after you were in for a while & go to selection & they preferred NCOs. During my early years in the Army SF volunteers were sought mainly as a reenlistment option & you had to be at least a SGT.

Who's to say the 20 year olds aren't going directly from H.S.?

Tacky would know all the in's and out's of your question. I suggest that if you go the way Msg. Glenn and Tack tell you, then you will do fine!! If you drop out of any portion of your training then the Army gets to pput you where they need you(the needs of the Army) most likely 11B. If you went to 68W first, then there is a great chance that if you drop then you will go back to being a combat medic. I was a Cavalry Scout for 10 years then reclassed as a Medic with a M6 identifier. Supported SF and Rangers on several missions in the box and I will tell you that you will find no better group of Soldier's and human beings!! GOOD LUCK !!
