Default Reserves to 18X Contract?

Hello,
I am currently in the Reserves as a 68WP1, orthopedic combat medic.I have only been in the reserves for little over a year. I want to go to active duty side of the army and apply for a 18x contract. Does anyone know if this is possible? After doing much research on the topic I have not found any answers on whether or not PS can get an 18X contract, but I am in the middle of getting my conditional release from my unit and wanted to know some more information before I Really talk to the Recruiter, thank you

Eric

Edit: Sorry If this topic has been dealt with Elsewhere. If there are links to this topic they will be appreciated.

I usually get on around 0600 each morning & then not again until around 0830 or 0900 for a while.

Many times the SF contracts are only open to E-4s over 20 years of age. Sometimes they have it as a first enlistment contract. It depends on when you apply for it. Summers are rough & I don't think 18X is too available now. The needs of the Army & SF trump everything.

Best to check with a Recruiter or your unit's Career Counselor. Your first step is to see if your unit will release you. It depends on whether your MOS has a shortage & also deployment tempos. Then you'll have to apply for an active duty contract that you want.

If 18X isn't available to you & you still want to be in the Active Duty Army I'd advise trying to get to Airborne School & RIP. You could be a medic in the 75th Ranger Regt. & apply for SFAS sometime in the future.

Make sure you get Airborne & RIP in your contract or 18X if possible.

Thank you for that insight, I was just told from other people that the 18x contract was only for initial entry soldiers and I wanted to know the truth to that,, instead of through the grape vine. thanks again. Yea i dont plan on getting released untill october/novemeber so most of the slots should be open for FY10.
Thanks Again.
