I don't see why not. The armories are full of active duty people during the work week to conduct the day-to-day-business of the unit.

I was an Active Army Advisor to an Army Reserve Training Division during my last few years before retirement. There were many active duty Reservists that worked there. I believe that they work on a year-to-year contract that keeps them at that location. they must be deploable so when the unit mobilizes so do they & even though they work a 5 day work week they're usually on duty for weekend drills. I think thery get time off during the week, though.

In the Reserve there was a criteria for rank. As I remember it was SSG & SFC & CPTs. That might not be accurate & the Guard might be altogether different.

There are so many variables when it comes to an AGR position, one being rank as MSG Glenn already mentioned. There aren't as many AGR positions available as people thing and it can get pretty competitive to get one of those slots. As long as their is a unit you can transfer into that has a slot available, it could work out. I don't see a unit holding a slot for a year though, that seems a bit unrealistic, most units like to fill their AGR slots fairly quickly as there are limited slots available.

You can do a service to service transfer, but I don't see how they can guarantee you an AGR slot a year out. You would most likely have to do the part time thing and then go from there.
