It really depends. You could be in supply, and all of the sudden your convoy is attacked and you are left to fend for yourself. Not to scare you off, but it's always a possibility. However, situations like that come few and far between. Say you end up doing intelligence or something like that, you will probably being sitting back in some air conditioned trailer miles away from the frontlines.

Every soldier should expect combat. Some more than others, obviously.

MOSs that are being underutilized will possibly go on patrols, have convoy duty or act as gate guards. When in a combat zone there's always the chance of coming under fire or have an IED go off near you.

I think Combat Arms soldiers are more than likely as safe as any. They have a more training & in some cases like the Rangers they take the fight to the enemy & are looking for trouble but that's their job & they've been trained for it.

If you do UAV I highly doubt you will see any combat... And if you do, it will be on some LCD monitor.

I suppose it would depend on your definition of combat. We have UAV in my husband's current unit. They have been deployed for 12 months and are due home soon and they were deployed in 2005. So they have been deployed but as far as what combat they have seen, well they didn't kick down doors but they helped plan the missions the Soldiers who went out on.

MOS 68W, Combat Medic or officially known as Health Care Specialists can be almost anywhere in the Army. They can be found in hospitals, Aid Stations or right alongside Infantrymen or Rangers in the middle of a hot mission. The war we're fighting now has no "front lines". You can experience a bomb or sniper attack in the middle of the city or out in the boonies. Urban warfare by it's nature is without any particular front line or Forward Edge of the Battle Area, FEBA.

Anybody in Iraq or Afghanistan can & more than likely will experience some form of combat. Just coming incountry & going from the airport to your unit is about the most dangerous 5 miles in Iraq. Then again IEDs, RPGs, & snipers can be found anywhere. Even if you're in a secure compound with gate guards & full security that still doesn't prevent a mortar attack.

Plan on the worst & hope for the best. What will be will be. No sense dwelling on it.
