Default Important BAH question

I'm a roommate of a National Guard officer who is in basic training and soon to be switching to AIT. She has been writing me in hysteria. She has been receiving BAH while she was at basic training for our apartment. She's only paying half what the lease is and I'm paying the other half.

Her question: is national guard solider entitled to BAH if their lease expires during Basic Training and/or AIT and they to renew it? Since the soilder is receiving BAH already will it carry to the lease renewal?

I can't seem to find that information out on the internet. I've been looking all over. Plus our lease will soon become a month to month lease. Will that still work or am I going to pack up her things (putting them in storage) and move.

First off, if she's an officer, she's not at BCT or AIT, she's probably a an enlisted Soldier or at her Officer courses. Does she have dependents? That would be the only way she should be receiving BAH as an enlisted Soldier. And her BAH isn't dependent on the lease, she's authorized it regardless.

It's hard to answer a question when there is conflicting information.

She must not be a solider because she will be transfering to her AIT in three weeks. She graduates this February. She doesnt have any dependants but herself.

If she's going to AIT then she must be an Enlisted Soldier. Since she is not married and does not have dependents then she will not receive BAH.

See the JTFR Table U10E-12 Rule 7. It says IF "is a new accession in the pipeline in a travel, leave en route or proceed time status while transferring from the initial training location, between training locations and to the first PDS" and "the member has no dependent" then "start the Transit rate when the member is in a travel status between duty/training stations and start the new PDS-based BAH rate the day the member reports to the new PDS. For a Reserve Component member, pay BAH based on the permanent residence location at the time called/ordered to active duty for the duration of the accession training if the member maintains a residence and continues to be responsible for rent, or owns the residence." Hope this information helps.
