The US have proved it also...from the Indian Ocean....to the Gulf...Aircraft Carriers are the most inportant ship in the Navy...they get priority when it comes to protection...lose your Carriers...and your in big problem....Japan found this out in WWII

Carriers can be protected....look at the conflict in the Falklands...our Frigets took hits...thats because they did their job...they were there to sheld the Carriers...and they did...it was recognized that the carriers...but more inportantly the Aircraft on them...were key to sucsess...if had lost the airpower they gave us....the task force sent would have failed....any Naval task group...will protect its carriers...even at the expense of other ships....if needs be

OK ive got a good one....... lets not bother buliding these ships incase they get attacked

its like not buying a Benz incase it gets into a traffic jam.....do you know the definition of WARSHIP???

Look at the Falklands conflict........we had the right things in place.....and no carrier got touched.....granted that was a conflict...and the carriers got protection

but hey.....we could always go into carrier protection aswell if you want???

........turn a corner man.... or jog on.......or at least be construtive if your ramberling
Good, lets not build an Aircraft Carrier in case we get attacked!!.. Haha.. good one mate!!..

I think that other guy doesn't think before he says things. If he had, he would have realized that his comment didnt make sense. Countries just aren't that incompetant anymore.

Its about time too,we have needed bigger carriers for years, the invincible class dont reaslly cut it anymore, and this will give our country better power projection,it will mean our navy stays a player for years to come

we should have used eurofighter, joint strike has took to long and its been to much hassle

Countries or governments? Governments in charge of countries invade other countries.

Since when were governments competant???

Only a fool puts all his eggs in one basket! and exactly how long do you think the Eurofighter has taken to come into service?...Its been flying around Warton for the last 10 years that I'm aware of before it came into service.

The Frigates were sunk protecting the landings not the Carriers.

The carriers will be an impressive addition, but at what cost to the Destroyer / Frigate fleets.

In order for the UK to maintain its global strike reach, they need to stay current with the RN. The carriers are a requirement IMO and any impact to the destroyer or frigite class elements of the Fleet need to be addressed by funding increase...

Carriers are vunerable to Naval attack thats why they sail in a Carrier group... The addition of Carriers will maintain the need for destroyer class ships in budget priorities... IMO...

During the Falklands conflict we had 50 Destroyers / Frigates to protect the landings and the carriers. We now have 25. So not as much room for error next time around eh? and with the cost of these fine vessels I'll be interested to see what cutbacks are made and where. I've watched this unfold before and can predict further cuts on an already diminished Frigate / Destroyer fleet!
