My bro and sis in law are in the Army, and I just enlisted. My bro went to Knox and hated BCT; whilst my sis went to Jackson and said she loved it and would do it all over again. Everyone refers to it as Relaxin Jackson, but what exactly makes it so much 'easier'(being the operative word) than the others?
I ship out 20060823 then off to Huachuca for 47 weeks(*cries*) as a 33W, and my bro told me the only thing I need to know about BCT is to keep my ears open and my mouth shut and let them see me, but not know what I sound like. I'm just curious why Jackson is so-called 'relaxing'

Well from what i hear its called taht because the drill sargents there aint as strict as in other places. I mean they prolly try to make it enjoyable for u while other places try to make it hell. I get shipped off to BT at Ft.Benning 20060816 so im in for it deep

harder training just means more discipline. The 'less harsh' BCT I'll have in Jackson will be over-ruled by the year long AIT in Huachuca in the middle of nowhere on the mexican border =)

Lots of chicks at Jackson, both drill sergeants and recruits. A chick friend of mine told me about some occasional bone-humping in the stairways. Benning is probably the most strict in the Army. You don't train with chicks at Benning. I hear there are women somewhere on post now, but you don't train with them. When I was there, there were no chicks on post, and drill sergeants were meaner than junk-yard dogs.(all dudes). Huachuca isn't so bad, I hear. I knew an Armorer who reclassed for military Intelligence and he went to Huachuca for training, then came back for his motorcycle. He said the post is not too bad and the roads are perfect for ridin'.

Dunno the history on both bases, but I do know that hard training means higher survival rate in operations. Go hard approach (assuming the harshness is purposeful and for a reason) is what I would prefer if it gives me the edge in an operational confrontation!..

All the pogs end up at Jackson and there was this misconception that only grunts fight so they don't need to learn all the grunt crap.
Benning is primarily an Infantry Training Post--Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault, Sniper School, etc.

If I was going state side to step back into marching boots again, I would insist in Benning... I was trained old school and if getting shafted out of bed with flash bangs at 3am made you a miserable recruit but a better soldier then so be it!!.... Better miserable as a recruit then dead after your debut with danger!!... Dunno what their at now, but I guess its a softer approach to accomodate "political correctness!".... absolute crap!!! I heard of them not waking recruits before 6am!!.. As for Engineers, that no suprise, the "specialists!" have an air of "oh I dont get my hands dirty, Im a specialist!".... it was going on in my place for years... When I was on my 3star course (equivilant to US Advanced Infantry Training) homing skills, we got a hard time from instructors..... and to make it worse, Air Corps "Specialists" were billeted next to us..... the early AM flashbangs were ruining their beautysleep so they complained to our platoon commander..... like we were in shock.... our reward for making it through the tactical training with flying colours was the instructors allowing us to mount a raid on the AirCorps Billets for 03.45hrs on the morning of our last day..... I will never forget it! It was the funniest damn early morning I ever had, and my funniest memory of the Army to this day... needless to say, a bunch of "specialists!" were looking pritty in their undies in the lower half of the camp.... its a half mile walk to the upper half where they were billetted... now thats funny!!....
