Default Favorite war movies?

We are thinking about putting up a top war movies list on our site. What are your favorite war movies?

Mine? I think I'm leaning towards "We Were Soldiers" at the moment, or perhaps "Platoon".

Default The Great Escape

I'll have to say that I think 'The Great Escape' is among the tops for me. Steve McQueen as Hilts the cooler king was awesome.

Default Saving Private Ryan

I would have to go with "Saving Private Ryan". It gave people a more realistic view of D-Day.

Default Favorite War Movie

Mine is Saving Private Ryan. It took me 3 years to get through the first 30 minutes. It was so painful because I knew it really happened to real people.

Saving Private Ryan is a good one. I also really like Full Metal Jacket. Any other suggestions?

that's a tough question.... damn.

Saving Private Ryan was an absolutely amazing movie. I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen it, and I still get all choked-up when I watch it. I'd go as far as to say that it is the greatest movie ever made... but, I could not exclude other great war movies just for artistic reasons.... so:

All Quiet On The Western Front was another one that I can think of. Someone needs to go ahead and do a re-make of that classic. Read the book, too. It was amazing.

Of course, We Were Soldiers needs to be mentioned, as well. I think everyone should be required to watch that movie before going to BCT.

Black Hawk Down.... now, that was an exceptional look at modern war. No collection is complete without it.

I can't decide between the four of them. All great movies. Watching any of them are as close to going to war as 70% of Americans will ever get. I say buy them all. I did.
