Default Parent to Visit in Germany

My son is now stationed in Baumholder Germany. I was stationed in Nurnberg/Furth in the early 70's and my Uncle died in the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried at Ardennes. My son and I thought it would be great to enjoy Europe together and pay respects to my Uncle.

I'm wondering if someone has experienced traveling to Germany to visit a military relative and can provide some pointers and information on good flights and traveling. We probable will have to use the train. I had a car and we were quite flexible.

Any "heads up" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Don
