Default Will New Soldier Follow Deployed Unit

Hello All...we just found out that my son will be going to the 287th MP Company (Fort Riley) after he graduates AIT. The 278th was deployed to Iraq at the end of January 2009 for a 12 month tour...so I'm assuming he "follow" them over? Thanks!

Most likely yes. It really depends on the individual unit and flights available to send Soldiers over. But typically when a unit has as much time as is left for the unit your son is going to, they send new Soldiers to join their unit.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say he's an 8 to go to his unit. Mostly it will depend on when he graduates & how much time the unit will have remaining on deployment. One of my son's buddies was sent home after a month on deployment to go to Ranger School (62 days) & after he graduated he was sent back to his unit that was still over there.
