Default Division/Regiment/Battalion Question

Is it possible to know which Division/Regiment/or Battalion I will be assigned to before BCT? Does each MOS belong to a certain one, does it depend on where you go to BCT, or is this something assigned while going through training?

You won't find out until you are in AIT. The Army won't reserve you a slot in a specific unit until you graduate from your MOS school and even then it sends you to an installation that has slots available but you won't know which unit you are getting to until you process through the installation itself.

Okay. I was just curious to know if its something your assigned right out of the gate. How do they decide which you'll be in? Or is it random?

It's pretty much a random assignment. It's always needs of the Army.

sometime in AIT you'll be asked to fill out a "dream Sheet" listing your preferences in the order of their importance to you. They try to station you at one of those posts. Don't hold your breath, though. That's why they call it a dream sheet.

I'll be dreaming of Ft Bragg (for Airborne) and Germany or Costa Rica.

If you get Airborne Bragg would probably be the most logical place you'll be sent. Next would probably be Vicenza, Italy with the 173rd Airborne Bde or with other non-Airborne Infantry Divisions that have units on Airborne status like the 25th ID.

Well what I meant was I'd be requesting Bragg because Airborne isn't in my contract. So, if I do not get in touch with a recruiter my plan was to ask to go to Bragg, which would almost garauntee I get to go Airborne. Although, Italy could be nice.

I would love to be stationed in Italia! Thats my background right there. To see where my father grew up would be awesome.
