Default WWII Air superiority

Main Players, American P-52 Mustang, British Spitfire, German Messerschmitt ME-109, Russian ??Intercepter?? not too sure on that one

Japanese Zero A6M5

Speed, accuracy, maneuverability, Range, Cost, Pilots and reliability are of course going to be the determining factors.

I realize this does not have much to do with the Army, but it came up in another thread and could be an interesting topic and I am sure everybody has strong opinions as to which was the best.

I want a clean fight, no hitting below the belt and no biting.

Technology accelerated at a fantastic pace during the war .Each aircraft had its moment .
The Hurricane and Spifire were hugely important to the outcome of the Battle of Britain .
The P51 not only gave the US bombers cover over Germany ,it also brought the fight to the skies above Germany and won !

Finland flew with large range of planes in ww2 against USSR.
most commonly known was perhaps the
Brewster Buffalo (we called it "pearl of the sky")
kill ratio (~33/1)

FAF managed to pull out some serious tricks those days.

untill we started to run out of equipments...
and the Soviet planes started to develop in to more modern design.

we had serious problems with IL2's for example.. since it was
armored so well that it was extremely hard to shoot down with
heavy MGs.. nose cannon would have been splendid...
FAF didnt have much planes with those.

FAF Brewster buffalo

the P-51 was probably just as good as the spitfire if not worse but the fokkewulf 190 was the best fighter in the skies including the ME-262

also the germans said the british RAF had the best pilots in the whole of the second world war

P51 Mustang, and Spitfire deadly planes in the sky. P51 with it's .50 calibure machineguns, and the Spitfire with it's 8 or 10 browning machineguns.

By war's end, P-51s had destroyed 4,950 enemy aircraft in the air, more than any other fighter in Europe.

i think you will find that that is false information and the hurricane destroyed the most enemy fighters in the whole war, especially after battle of britian
