Default 74D questions...Please Help

I just went from the IRR into a Reserve Unit and I am reclassifying from 11b to 74D. I was wondering if I will need any type of security clearance or background check to complete the process. I have had problems before with security clearances. What is the required clearance for 74D?

At the entry level you don't. But it will depend on your duty position. If you plan on staying in the Army, you will eventually need one as you progress. Being a Chemical Soldier can be very diverse. You can end up in any type of unit doing different things within the realms of your MOS. Many will say that you don't have a civilian equivalent but if you end up with the right schooling and opportunities you can transition nicely into the civilian sector with some good qualifications and experience.

My husband has just entered the NG with MOS 74 D, He needed, like "top" security clearance. I say like, cause I am unsure of the actually level, and the paperwork is not close by.

So it might be different for soldiers transferring 11B to 74 D, but if it your initial assignment, I know my husband had to go through additional security measures.

That is not correct information. My husband has been a 74D his entire career (20 years now) and while he has needed different levels of security clearance during his career, you do not require one upon entry into the Army. Perhaps they issued your husband an interim security clearance upon enlistment, it was most likely not at the Top Secret level.

The Chem. Corps is very diverse. So your security clearance will depend on where you are, and what you are working with.

You should not need a security clearance to simply switch to 74D. However, the lack of one will restrict you to more mundane jobs.
