Pretty much everyone is being deployed..

There is a pretty good chance that you'll be deployed.

Default deployment

Does anyone know what a 42a would do on deployment, I take it they would do their trained job. We have to have HR people anywhere the troops are.

You would do the same thing you do back here in the states. Take care of Soldiers and all their paperwork, making sure things are up to date. You may also fill in as a driver for some of the leaders in your company. You would have an office job while deployed. The need for promotions, awards and other personnel actions doesn't end when a unit deploys.

I can assure you that you will probably be able to do your HR job most of the time you are in country BUT...Mos t peoples HR issues are resolved before they deploy. I dont know what your rank is but I will tell you that you might want to get ready to be a gunner on a humvee. Most of the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan are convoy security, FOB security, and detainee operations. When I went to Iraq my entire unit were MLRS Crewman. Needless to say there wasnt a whole lot of use for them over there so we became Infantry. Combat patrols, convoy operations and escorting prisoners to court and back. Remember everybodies first MOS is 11B. The other MOS is just an extra job the Army wants you to do.

you will be a secretary oops admin assistant oops human resources technician/specialist lol

If you go on active; it depends with the unit. I was 42a in the National Guard and we just trained and actually didnt do work. I left them and became an MP before the unit deployed to Kuwait and do you know what all the 42As did in Kuwait? Combat patrols!!! So, sometimes you do your job; sometimes you dont.

You will do your job, unless you are lucky enough to do combat patrols in Kuwait.
