There's guys much older than you enlisting, up to 42. 25 isn't old at all. My son's buddy who is still in the 3rd Ranger Batt. just accepted a 39 year old in his squad on his first enlistment. I was 38 when I went in but I had 6 years in the Navy 14 years earlier.

Drills are pretty fair across the board. I doubt very much that they'll single you out for your age, not at 25. The older guys might be given leadership positions in the class due to their maturity, but then again almost everyone is rotated into one.

When are you leaving? What MOS? Too bad you didn't get onsite before you went to MEPS. We could have counselled you. Make sure you get yourself in good physical shape before shipping, even if you only have a short time. Google the APFT requirements for your age group & try to max them before shipping. Basic will be much easier.

What Reserve unit are you assigned to?

I'm in a similar situation (26, just joined USAR)... nice to hear from another mid-twenty year old joining up. I ship to BCT in April, but put in a form with my recruiter to move my ship date in closer. Pretty stoked!

You're not quite that "old", lol. When my husband was a DS, age didn't make that big a difference, just because Soldiers are older doesn't make them wiser. If you're going to draw attention to yourself for something, draw it for being squared away not because you are "older". New Soldiers are actually coming in later in life so you might find you are not in the minority at all.

Good luck!

You'll probably be in the same age group as your Drill Sgt. He certainly won't consider you old unless he considers himself old.
