Default Who decides when AIT starts

I'm PS USMC going into Army Reserves after a long break. Since there will be no WTC, I was wondering who decides when I go to AIT?

I'm being told 2 different things. One person said it is up to the Unit when I will be shipped out... another person said it is up to my counselor.

This bugs me... Doesn't anyone know exactly?

Good question! I'm sure it can go either way. You might enlist & then ship out to AIT or you might be assigned to your Reserve unit & then they'll send you off to AIT, possibly at your convenience.

The MEPS counselor has to determine which MOSs are needed at your Reserve unit. Reserve units don't need all MOSs & some are very limited. When I was an Active Army advisor to a Reserve Div. we had a lot of local police officers there. The couldn't be MPs because that was an MOS that wasn't used there. However the local Army National Guard Bde had them.

Are you sure you don't have to go to WTC? I had heard that every prior service soldier had to attend unless you were out in less than, I believe, 3 months.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for responding Top...

I already sat down with the career counselor and we realized there was a missing doc. Some IRR discharge paperwork to be exact. However, we did go through what was available and reserved an MOS. 68W E-4 w/bonus. Sadly, we tried for other MOS' and/or identifiers like the m6, but none for PS unless I went active. Which I would go active if it weren't for my son. I'm a divorced 'active' father, so most decisions are based around that. I'm just not into signing up to hang out once a month without being MOS'qued. Plus, I would like to be deployed!!! And as far as WTC.. none for me. It would be nice to get a refresher though... but only if I went active. I did not ask the question about who sends me to AIT and when. Guess I will know for sure when I go back on Friday.

"Warrior Transition Course (WTC)
All prior service applicants who are enlisting
into the Regular Army or Army Reserve who
would require Basic Training (nine weeks) will
now attend the Warrior Transition course (four
weeks). This also includes those Soldiers who
are transitioning in under the Blue to Green
All prior service enlistments into the Army
Reserve who have not completed Army or Marine
Corps basic training must also attend WTC. All
applicants enlisting into the Army Reserve who
have completed Army or Marine Corps basic training will not be required to attend WTC
regardless of separation date or current affiliation.

Default Ait

in reference to your ? when your prior service and going into reserve unit if you reclass then it is up to the unit to provide the funding and send you to AIT. I was told this by my counselor upon going back in and my 1st Sgt just got me set up yesterday to go back to Ait as I am reclassing to 25M from 13E{old School} .
