Good point ....The Australian navy is investing in two 25,000 ton amphibious assualt ships .That will probably utilise the F35

switch the pigs? what the hell does that mean?

Australias planning to buy enough JSF's to replace the F-111's, but the media's whinging about budget blowouts and all that crap... boo ****ing hoo.

25,000 ton Assault ship, first i've heard of it... mind you it does make sense. Although, i doubt we'd have the personnel to crew it... haha.

apparently its in the acquisition phase. The companies competing to get the order are ADI ltd linking with Amaris (a french company) and Tenix Defence linking with spain's Navantia .Expect a decision in 6 months time !! It's going to cost you guys 2 billion AUD. There goes that swimmming pool

Pigs hey? that sounds strangely appropriate!!

As for the two amphibious assault ships... you wouldnt happen to mean the LPA's we've already got would you? The HMAS's Kanimbla and Manoora, originally built for the USN but acquired by Australia in 1994? They underwent extensive modifications and are now in service as Operation Headquarters and Helicopter Depots, capable of carrying 3 Sea Kings or 4 Blackhawks.

They're not fix wing aircraft capable. So if by amphibious assault you mean Aircraft Carrier, then that would make sense in realtion to the price.

My understanding is the requirement is for two brand spankin new Carrier assualt ships ,similar to our HMS Ocean but with F35 capability . It would add up and give the Ozzie navy more flexibility ,I'll see if I can find an article .

I can only find this link

Lets hope they have more luck than this ship

Oops, sorry about the Frank E Evans yanks... wonder if it was the same guy in command with both incidents. Doubt it, the ADF doesnt take kindly to ships sinking allied ships.

Anyhoo, sounds great Texas, thanks for the links, quite informative. Interesting to see our Navy extending an order for F-35B's, that might actually explain the projected budget blowout... BECAUSE WE'RE ORDERING MORE!!!!

coolio

By the way, doesnt that Mistral class look like an oversized shoebox!?

Could sink one of them with a forced hit to one side!

And what about the bow? What happened? Did they run out of steel so they had to cut the front off?
