Default Joining the army later this year

Hi, I'm joining the army this winter as an NCO (sergeant) in an armored infantry division (ie I lead a squad around in an APC). I'm looking for some general advice on how to conduct myself in the Army - y'know, the little things that keep you on good terms with your colleagues, get you promoted and keep you from being overworked. I'd rather learn this sort of wisdom the easy way. I don't know what military life is really like; what its good and bad sides are.

Exactly what i was going to say. It usually takes an Infantryman FIVE years to get promoted into the Sergeant Rank, which is known as an Senior NCO (SNCO)... well atleast here in Australia anyway. Dunno you're rank structure, so you have Corporals (NCO's)?

Anyhoo, if you think you're enlisting and going straight to Sergeant, you shouldn't even be asking the sort of questions you are... ie, how to prevent getting overworked, how to conduct yourself.

As a sergeant, you get off you're *** and take the **** with the cherry's. You're responsible for the actions of the 10- 12 men with you in your section. There is NO easy way out. That's what NCO's are famous for... doing **** the hard way and putting up with it every time without complaint.

So, if you think you're still up for it, and i'm in no way suggesting that you aren't, then by all means enlist as a direct entry sergeant...
