Considering joining reserves
I have a question, and this is the best place to ask it, I bet. I'm a 23-year old college grad interested in joining the reserves to become a reserve officer. One small catch - I have a class one misdemeanor on my record (theft by deception under $500) from when I was 19. Will this bar me from joining the way I'd like to, and will it prevent me from getting a security clearance? My criminal history, to this point, has rendered me unable to own a firearm. Thoughts? I really appreciate it.
You'd more than likely be able to enlist with waivers. Your inability to own a firearm suggests that you were convicted of a felony. You could get a waiver but going the officer route might be more difficult. Waivers are dependant on the amount of convictions & what type & how long since the last one. Even after a certain amount of simple misdemeanors you can't get waivered.
I suggest you see a Recruiter, tell him everything & then take it fom there.
