13P Multiple Launch Rocket System Automated Data Systems Specialist (Fire Direction Specialist) FA:100

A Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist is a part of the Army's combat team. MLRS teams are used to support infantry and tank units while supplementing cannon artillery in combat, but they also have responsibilities during peacetime. The MLRS launches various missiles and ammunitions in quick strikes during combat. The MLRS Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist records and transmits the firing data for the MLRS. The multiple launch rocket system operations/fire direction specialist leads, supervises, or serves as a member of a MLRS fire direction center or firing platoon headquarters.

Requirements:

  • A minimum score of 100 in aptitude area FA

  • A physical demands rating of heavy (be able to lift on an occasional basis a maximum of 100 pounds with frequent or constant lifting of 50 pounds )

  • Color discrimination of red/green

  • A security clearance of SECRET

  • U.S. Citizenship

Duties:

  • Record and transmits firing data using fire direction system and voice radio

  • Operate the communication systems in the MLRS

  • Gather operations and intelligence data

  • Plot firing points using maps

  • Record ammunition used, firing points and mission reports

  • Collect and transmit data

Training:

  • Nine weeks of basic training

  • Seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (Part of this time is spent in a classroom and part in the field under simulated combat)
